Hoofin' it in Hawkinsville
2011
In its second year, we hope to make it even better.
The Hawkinsville Chamber has decided to take on the challenge of this
interesting run. A portion of the proceeds will still be going to
our local 4H. It has been said: "there are not too many runs where
you can see the first place to the last during the entire run". In
fact that makes for a super spectator run. "The Human Race" and
then you can stick around for the horse races! We are on the Run & See
Series again this year.
2010
This race is the "Brain Child" of a runner, not even
from Hawkinsville. As a matter of fact not even from Georgia (Tri M
Stables in Tallahassee Florida). It has been pushed forward by
fellow runner Bub Way (one of our sponsors). He was finally able
to convince the Harness Festival to have a run on the track. With
some P.R. from Gary Jenkins and his Run & See Georgia Series we should
have a well attended event for those "points chasers".
Pulaski County 4
H , under the direction of Ronnie Barantine and Sonya Jones, will be the benefactor of
any proceeds from this event. The 4 H group will also be helping
out in this unique event. When word got around about the run
another fellow runner offered to serve a "Professional
Timing Services". Our thanks to Benny Wade of Cordele, GA for all
he does for running in South Georgia. Then local business owner,
Paul Williams heard of our endeavor, he offered his mailing services and
the expense to get the word out. Thanks to Owen & Williams Fish
Farm, Inc. Elite Sport & Spine Physical Therapy came on board with
not only some funds but will bring a large team of runners in hopes to
winning the Team Participation award. Our T-Shirts will be
provided locally, at a deep discount ensuring more funds to the 4H. The course would not be complete without
The City of Hawkinsville and Mac Lilley allowing us to use both tracks to complete
the distance and make for one of Georgia's most unusual 5K Cross Country
runs. Our local Rotary Club stepped up and offered any logistical
assistance required. Ocmulgee Order, which many of the same members are
Rotarians as well, will also be providing support.
My sincere thanks goes out to all of the
above and any of those I failed to mention.
